SUE
Ah, such a beautiful day. The sun is shining, the breeze is warm, the sky is the usual shade of dull grey…
STELLA
What are you talking about? The sky is, and always has been blue.
SUE
I have no idea what you are talking about.
INGRID
Sorry Sue, but I have to agree with Stella on this one. It’s definitely blue.
SUE
It looks grey to me.
INGRID
No, (points to an apple) This is grey. See the difference.
SUE
Yeah, I see the difference. That is clearly red. And quite delicious.
STELLA
Looks red to me.
INGRID
You’re both crazy. This is grey.
SUE
No, the sky is grey.
(They start to bicker, but notice the audience.)
INGRID
Oh, hello there. I didn’t see you there.
STELLA
How are all of you doing today? (pause) That’s great!
SUE
Welcome to the Deedle Deedle District of Hush-a-by Bay.
INGRID
It’s a small village, but it sure is a busy place.
STELLA
(Points DSR) Down there are the Hickory Dickory boat docks.
SUE
(Points DSL) And over there is the Old King Coal Mine.
INGRID
(Points US) And of course, the Pat-A-Cake Bakery is back that way.
STELLA
It’s so good. We go there every afternoon when Polly put’s the kettle on.
SUE
Oh, I’m sorry. How silly of us. We haven’t introduced ourselves. My name is Sue.
INGRID
She can’t see blue. My name is Ingrid.
STELLA
She can’t see a thing red. My name is Stella, and I was just about to show these two what the colour grey looks like. (points to the haystack) See?
SUE & INGRID
That’s yellow.
STELLA
No it’s not.
ALL
Oh, yes it is.
STELLA
Oh, no it’s not.
ALL
Oh, yes it is.
STELLA
It’s not, it’s not, it’s not!
ALL
It is, it is, it is!
SUE
Stella can’t see yella.
